Housing Rights

Atlanta has serious housing crisis going on something terrible. I want to reaffirm-with solid civil rights legislation-that the people of Atlanta are protected against our housing market's predatory capitalistic practices.
We can have safe/free housing for all people. public buildings around the city with beds, baths, kitchens..arcades. The homeless will not only be universally housed and fed-but they will finally be equal and respected citizens in my vision of Atlanta.
Currently; Each lease signing one can count on a rent increase as the city continually fills itself with more and more well off to do people by design. I've been forced to move out of several homes because of this and it is always heartbreaking. We ridiculously don't have basics like percent based rent-control here in GA..but we can in future Atlanta.
The establishment I've seen is shutting down shelter without opening new ones; letting entire halves of neighborhoods go boarded up because some bank or some dude bought all the foreclosures; just generally violently driving people from their homes because of their income..We needn't and cann't be staying the course and relying on our monstrous capitalistic systems and rule-sets that make up this status quo.

We need citizen driven change and systems to protect us where greed has penetrated and failed our society.

  2. I dropped a heavy colorado couch on my toe when tearfully moving out of a rental the other month (for reason of being too poor to afford a 25% rent increase and having butterfingers)

another casualty of our out of control rental situation what with all the rents just going up across the city every year and a heavy price to pay beyond what it cost to rent a truck to move my life again..
